It is privilege and honour for India to host the 16th International
Golden Elephant Children’s Film Festival this November.
To make a good children’s film is a special challenge.
While children are certainly able to understand complexity
and nuances in a film, they are also quick to spot artifice,
laboured metaphors and gimmickry. They respond with whole-hearted
approval and enthusiasm to a film that engages them, whether
at the level of emotion and ideas, or just sheer fantasy and
entertainment. No wonder some of the world’s greatest
film makers have risen to the challenge and produced some
of their best work in children’s films.
I am sure the “Golden Elephant” Film Festival
this year will bring to us a feast of the finest children’s
films. I hope it will inspire and ignite new creative processes
among Indian film makers as well as audiences, both children
and adults.
I send my warm greetings to the distinguished jurors and
participants in the Festival, and all my good wishes for its
success.
